A thermostat is a component that automatically regulates the degree of hotness or coldness. The device functions to establish and maintain a specified temperature once it reaches a certain point.
In other words, the thermostat is similar to a spring loaded gate valve. Its function is to open and close so as to keep the engine at optimum temperature.
As with any device that regulates high temperatures, at some point it is necessary to pull out this automatic device that regulates the temperature and either replace it or insect it for heat damage, cracks or signs of corrosion.
Once you withdraw the thermostat from the engine. Do away with it if there is damage and replace the thermostat with a new part.
