It is easier for us to help you diagnose your Dodge Caravan performance problem if you provide us more detailed information. So for example, what best describes your minivan’s problem…

    • Dodge Caravan sudden loss of performance power when accelerating
    • Dodge Grand Caravan feels sluggish throughout the rpm range
    • Dodge Caravan hesitates only when accelerating
    • Dodge Caravan loses power going up hill
    • Dodge Caravan slow/weak acceleration
    • Or, where you stating that the engine is losing electrical power

Moreover, does the minivan make any noises when the problem happens i.e. backfire, ticking noise, etc. Does the vehicle jerk while accelerating? Is there a check engine light and is the light blinking?

But to answer your broad question of engine loss of power, I have included a screenshot of the actual troubleshooting section that is included in the 2001 Dodge Caravan factory repair manual.

This is the same troubleshooting info that factory dealership trained technicians use to diagnose a Dodge Caravan engine loss of power. For reference, the same information can be applied for the following model vehicles (as well as similar years).

I have a Grand Caravan that also power when accelerating. Do the same factory instructions apply to a 2009 3.8 L V6 engine?

Here is the troubleshooting guide for “engine loss of power”. It is a screenshot of 2008 thru 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country factory service manual. It is for 3.3L/3.8L engines and 4.0 L models..
