Spark Plug Type 2007 Evinrude E-TEC 115hp

Question

What spark plug type and gap does the 2007 Evinrude E-TEC 115 horsepower outboard engine use? I want to know the original equipment manufacturer brand that fits into the cylinder head on the internal combustion engine.

The plugs in my motor now are somewhat worn and are not properly igniting fuel/air mixture and they are causing misfire. The rest of the ignition system seems fine and fuel quality is good. My problem is weak ignition spark.

UPDATE:

  • 2007 115hp models can use QC10PEPB (9005) iridium spark plug or QC10WEP (9005) alternative.
  • 2008 thru 2013 115hp models use QC10WEP (9005) iridium spark plugs.

What is the best type of spark plug for the 2007 Evinrude e-tec 90hp? Are the best kind of plugs double platinum, copper or iridium? Would you happen to know the spark plug gap?

    Hi Clark

The best spark plugs on the market are the ones recommended by the manufacturer. I wouldn’t suggest trying to use a different type or brand equivalent spark plugs. There is the Evinrude E-TEC spark plug service chart for your 90hp model.

    Year Brand Type Gap
    2007 Champion QC12PEPB 0.030 ± 0.003 in. (0.76 mm)
    2008 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2009 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2010 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2011 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2012 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2013 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)

The manufacturer recommends you apply Triple-Guard grease to the gasket surface of the spark plugs and to torque plugs to 15 ft. lbs. (20 N·m). Be certain to index spark plugs when you install them.

I would guess the 60 hp models would be the same type of plug and gap as the 90hp models? Just out of curiosity is this a double platinum or iridium plug?

      Hi Jeffrey

The spark plug type for the 2007 60hp model is a Champion 7953 QC12PEPB double platinum. The 2008+ models use a Champion 9005 QC10WEP iridium spark plug.

Be certain to always use the kind of spark plugs recommended by the manufacturer. Below list the spark plug type, brand and gap requirements for the following year 115 hp engines:

    Spark Plug Type And Gap

    Year Brand Type Gap
    2007 Champion QC10PEPB 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2008 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2009 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2010 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2011 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2012 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)
    2013 Champion QC10WEP 0.028 ± 0.003 in. (0.71 mm)

Routine spark plug inspection and maintenance is required to prolong the life of the boat motor. Inspection and maintenance should be performed every 300 hours or every three years, whichever comes first. This is based on average recreational use.

Evinrude outboards that operate in salt water, in frequent harsh conditions or are commercially used require more frequent spark plug maintenance and inspection.
