Where is the ignition coil located on a 2004 Dodge Caravan?

Question

In what place is the ignition coil transformer positioned on a 2004 Dodge Caravan 3.3-liter V6 engine? Moreover, what does the ignition coil look like? Knowing its appearance might help me locate its position.

I am sure every man on earth knows what an ignition coil looks like and where to find it, but I am a woman. My Dodge Caravan minivan is having problems running and the neighbor said it might be the ignition coil but he didn’t bother to tell me where it is situated and now he’s out of town.

Can anyone tell me where it is stationed so I can remove it and install a new unit. Pictures of the location would help. Thanks!

The ignition coil assembly on a 2004 Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6 engine is mounted on the intake manifold. Just for reference, the ignition coil for the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine is mounted on the cylinder head cover.

Here are some pictures of what the ignition coil assembly looks like and where it is located.

    Ignition Coil Location

If you remove the ignition coil, be certain to replace the plug wires in the correct firing order.

An ignition coil, also termed introduction coil, is an electrical component that transforms an automobile battery low voltage into thousands of volts. This high voltage is needed to generate enough electric spark at the spark plugs to ignite the pressurized air/fuel mixture inside the cylinder.

Six individual spark plug cable wires are attached to the ignition coil assembly and route to each cylinder spark plug.

Okay, I have located the ignition coil, how do I remove it? I have a DEWALT mechanics 142-piece tools kit and socket set so I think I have would I need to take it off.

        Ignition Coil Removal

Step 1. Disconnect the negative battery cables from their clip.

Step 2. You might need to take off the throttle and speed control cables from their clips.

Step 3. Take off both (two) bolts that secure the power steering reservoir. It is mounted to the intake manifold (see red arrow).

Step 4. Take off the lower nut that secures the power steering reservoir. The nut is secured to stud on the ignition coil bracket (see blue arrows).

Step 5. Gently position the power steering reservoir out of the way so you can have room to remove the ignition coil assembly.

Step 6. Take off the ignition coil cables from the coil, there are six of them. Be certain to replace them in the exact order of removal. Just in case you mix up the plug wires, here is a picture of the firing order electrical connectors. Firing order is the same for 3.3/3.8L engines.

Step 7. Take off the electrical connector from the ignition coil assembly.

Step 8. Take off the 2 nuts that secure the ignition coil to the ignition coil studs and replace the coil assembly.

Reverse ignition coil removal procedures to install the new coil.
